PROGRAM POLICIES
RULES OF PRODUCTION
(a) Attendance Policy:
(1) Each Performer is required to attend all of his/her scheduled rehearsals, and to arrive on time. Three conflicts are allowed, and are to be written on the conflict sheet provided. If there are more than three absences, or repeated instances of tardiness, there may be a penalty of the loss of a role or exclusion from the Show, with no refund.
(2) If your child can not attend due to illness, or a conflict comes up after you have submitted the conflict sheet, email the Stage Manager and Director as soon as possible. Be aware that even if you report your conflicts in advance, missing rehearsal may prevent you from being staged into scenes and musical numbers.
(3) "Production Weeks" are the two weeks prior to performances and attendance is mandatory. Be prepared for rehearsals to run long.
(b) Withdrawing from a Production and Refund Policy:
(1) If you withdraw from a production before the cast list is posted, you are entitled to a 50% refund. If you withdraw from a production for any reason after the cast list is posted, no refund is given. Rising Star is a learning organization, not a vehicle for those who only wish to have a lead role. Every role in every production is vital, and cooperation is the essence of theatre. The goal is learning to create a great company, and that means every cast member must be devoted to giving their best performance and developing a rapport with fellow cast members.
(2) Call (818) 267-4839 to withdraw from a production. If you withdraw, you will not be allowed to audition for the next production, unless you are excused by the Director for extenuating circumstances.
(c) Costumes:
(1) Performers will be assigned costumes, and are responsible for keeping the costume in good repair, and returning it immediately following the final show.
(2) Performers are responsible for providing their own shoes, hosiery, and whatever they wear underneath their costume (tank top, shorts or leotard) for changing backstage in a co-ed environment. Performers may be asked to provide costume pieces, but are not required to.
(d) Conduct:
(1) Kindness towards all cast members and staff is expected.
(2) Clean up after yourself at rehearsals and shows.
(3) No Profanity.
(4) Pay attention, listen and cooperate during rehearsals.
(5) Remain in the rehearsal / theater area during rehearsals and shows.
(6) Know your lines, songs, entrances and exits by the date you are given.
ONGOING PRODUCTIONS
(a) Casting
Each production will be cast at the director's discretion. Because many of our members participate in multiple productions we must adhere to the policy of not giving the same cast member a lead role in consecutive productions. If a cast member participates in a production as a lead character, the next production they participate in (whether it is the next production Rising Star does or whether they skip a production and then return), they cannot be cast as a lead. This policy will mostly apply to our female participants since there are many more girls who enroll with the troupe. We believe this to be the most judicious way to allow as many participants as possible to have the opportunity to experience being a lead or supporting character in a production. We also adhere to the policy that 'there are no small roles'. (Please see details in RULES OF PRODUCTION section.)
